Terror in Thailand: South Korean Streamer Escapes Unharmed from Shopping Mall Shooting

On October 3, a chilling incident unfolded at the Siam Paragon shopping mall in Bangkok, Thailand. What makes this incident all the more unsettling is that it was live-streamed by a popular South Korean streamer known as BJ ‘Barbie Jini,’ who happened to be broadcasting from a restaurant within the same mall when the shooting erupted.

BJ ‘Barbie Jini’ is a well-known figure on the broadcasting platform Afreeca TV. Her presence at the scene provided a real-time view of the chaos and panic that ensued as people desperately sought safety amid the unfolding horror.

The streamer was seated at a restaurant in the mall, casually sipping her drink when she suddenly heard the unmistakable sound of a gunshot and the shattering of window glass. She turned to see the source of the noise and was met with the sight of people frantically fleeing for cover. “What’s happening?” she asked in panic. Quickly grasping the gravity of the situation, she speculated, “I think it’s a gunshot,” and immediately joined the crowd in their frantic escape.

After reaching safety, she paused to catch her breath, still in shock from the experience. The terror in her voice was palpable as she exclaimed, “It’s so terrifying. People are running away again.” Barbie Jini promptly made her way out of the scene, urgently seeking a taxi.

In the initial confusion, she even questioned whether it might be some sort of prank. However, witnessing a mother abandon her stroller in a desperate attempt to find safety brought home the grim reality of the situation.

Reflecting on the incident later, she admitted, “It really was a gunshot. I could have been in serious trouble if I had been a little later.” Following her harrowing ordeal, she took to Instagram to share details of the incident and expressed her condolences to the victims on her channel’s bulletin board.

Local Thai media reported hearing over ten gunshots at the scene and confirmed two fatalities, with five others injured. The police acted swiftly, apprehending a 14-year-old male juvenile who is currently under investigation for the shooting.
