In a recent legal ruling, the Seoul Central District Court has favored the former brand sponsor of actress Seo Ye Ji, prompting a response from her agency, Gold Medalist. Seo Ye Ji has been making headlines due to allegations of school bullying and manipulation against her ex-boyfriend, actor Kim Jung Hyun.
The Verdict and Compensation
On November 16, it was revealed that the Court ruled in favor of Seo Ye Ji’s previous brand sponsor, Yuhan Care, awarding them a compensation of 225 million won (approximately $173,943.99 USD). The lawsuit was filed due to the losses suffered by the brand following the controversies Seo Ye Ji was embroiled in. Although the actress is not personally obligated to cover the losses, her agency has been mandated to do so, as Seo Ye Ji’s contract explicitly states that endorsement models should refrain from actions damaging to their reputation.
Initial Lawsuit Details
Yuhan Care initially paid Seo Ye Ji 450 million won (approximately $347,695.83 USD) to act as the brand’s endorsement model. The initial lawsuit demanded compensation of 1.275 billion won (approximately $986,453.86 USD). However, a contractual clause stipulated that if the advertisement was canceled after the endorsement model fee had been paid, 50% of the fee should be refunded. Thus, the Court awarded Yuhan Care 225 million won.
Gold Medalist’s Response
Gold Medalist issued a statement on November 10, confirming that the allegations made by Yuhan Care regarding school bullying and more against Seo Ye Ji were unproven. However, due to the loss of trust from the advertiser resulting from the allegations, a partial refund of the model fees was required according to the contract. The agency emphasized that the suspicions against Seo Ye Ji are untrue, and considering the legal resolution of the situation, they requested understanding to refrain from baseless accusations and criticism against her.
Amidst the controversy, Seo Ye Ji and her agency face both legal and reputational challenges. While the actress denies the allegations against her, the industry and the public closely monitor developments. The truth behind these accusations remains a hot topic that is far from reaching a resolution.
